Sunday:
What a day! I got up for chores, and suddenly developed a new friend. One of the new bucket calves is really young and he loves me...too much. He follows me so close that I trip over him when I walk! Guess he really likes me and can't wait until I mix up milk and put in a tiny-calf sized bucket!
Anyway, chores were fine, afterward I headed back home to see what movement had gone on there. They were up and eating breakfast so I joined in. After breakfast we started in on a few projects before the clan had to head for the hills...or the plains I guess you could say! Pat started making me some egg fixings in a bag! How sweet is that, I can mix it all up ahead of time and then just microwave it when I want it! It's the simple things in life that thrill me. While she was doing that Mom and I repotted a couple of my house plants and went out and planted some tomato plants in the tank out back. I don't eat raw tomatoes- so Merle and Adrienne better get ready for lots of them! I may just have to cook some up...o crap there I got throwing that word around again- cook. It makes me nervous.
So, we did those things and then went over to a closeby alfalfa field and checked out the brown spots. Since Mom's got an Agronomy degree and I'm working on the minor we figured we could at least id the problem. Sure enough- there were weavils in there. We did a little research and found that the cheapest and best way to handle the problem is to just cut the stand asap. I think we are actually going to cut it very soon so it should work out well. By the time we got back, Pat and Grandma had cleaned my light fixtures- which I hadn't even noticed...so that was a plus for sure! By that time, it was about time for them to pack up and head home. They got to going at about 11 and the house got pretty quiet.
I decided to take a little time off and I watched Braveheart. That was the movie I had slept through the night before so it was nice to actually watch it. What a good movie! By the time it was over I figured that I had better do something. So, I headed down to the other placed and got the riding lawn mower going. Then, I went to town with the thing (not literally). I cheated and mowed my whole yard with it. It actually did a better job than the push mower and took less than an hour verses the 3 1/2 it takes with the push mower! Then, it mowed down some super tall grass at the shed and I mowed the yard down at the milkhouse again. That took most of the afternoon. Right when I was putting the mower away Delbert showed up. He had been filling in tanks with his tractor and was leaving it at our place for the night and waiting fro Angie to pick him up. He helped me put the mower away and then we chatted for a while until Merle and Adrienne showed up from fishing at the culvert. They cleaned fish and talked and I did chores quick. By the time we were done Angie and her son Dante (a whole 4 years old now!) showed up and taked and then took Delbert home.
Instead of going home myself, I realized that I forgot to clean out the bottom of the mower so I drug it back out from it's cozy littel corner in front of all the four wheelers and scraped it out. They don't make those big zero turn lawn mowers with cleaning them in mind, that's for sure! After putting it away I loaded up the push mower and took it home. I used it to suck up the winrow the big mower left and then just parked it in the garden shed for the night.
After that the night was about history. I was tired and ready for bed. I really didn't do much but I guess I was sleepy anyway! It was lots of fun to have company and I hope that others come visit or they come back sometime! Yey for familiy, friends, dead prarie dogs and good food! (maybe that wasn't the best order to pick withe the dogs and the food).
